Shivnarine Chanderpaul closed in on a double century as Warwickshire took control against relegation threatened Yorkshire on day two at Headingley.
The West Indies batsman made an unbeaten 167 as Warwickshire closed on 340-6, a first innings lead of 43.
Visiting openers Varun Chopra and Ian Westwood were dismissed early to leave Warwickshire struggling on 5-2.
But, in only his second match, Chanderpaul compiled an impressive score which included 22 fours.
Tim Ambrose hit 66 off 81 balls in a 111-run partnership with the left hander before being caught at slip by Jacques Rudolph off David Wainwright.
After the spinner, who claimed three wickets, trapped Darren Maddy lbw for 12, Keith Barker (33) put on an unbroken 76 with Chanderpaul before the close.
CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY
BBC WM's Mike Taylor:
"Shivnarine Chanderpaul's high-class hundred was obviously vital to Warwickshire building their strong position, but equally important was the resolve shown by successive partners as the team recovered from a poor start.
"Things turned decisively Warwickshire's way with a sudden burst of boundaries from Tim Ambrose mid-afternoon and Keith Barker proved another reliable partner for Chanderpaul.
"For Yorkshire, Ryan Sidebottom bowled impressively as ever but no other bowler offered Jacques Rudolph the same degree of control. Consequently, after tea, Sidebottom was held back for the second new ball, and in the meantime Warwickshire raced along at more than four an over, taking a crucial advantage."
