Naved Arif returned his best figures of the season as Sussex beat Nottinghamshire by an innings and five runs at Trent Bridge.

Notts, who resumed on 103-4, surrendered meekly on the final day to be dismissed for 172, Arif with 4-41.

Luke Fletcher hit three sixes and three fours in making 39 off 22 balls.

Sussex leapfrog above last season's champions in the table to secure fifth spot, while Notts have to settle for sixth.

The final game of the season also brought an end to Charlie Shreck's nine-season association with Nottinghamshire.

The Cornish-born paceman, who twice won the Championship with Notts in 2005 and 2010, will now move to Kent on a two-year contract.
