Somerset reached the main draw of the Champions League T20 by beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 11 runs in Hyderabad.

Peter Trego hit 70 and Roelof van der Merwe 40 as Somerset posted 166-6.

The Knight Riders never recovered from the early loss of Jacques Kallis, falling short on 155-8, despite 46 off 31 balls from Ryan ten Doeschate.

That was still enough for Kolkata to also progress to the main draw as the best runner-up in qualification, while Somerset go through as Pool B winners.

The Knight Riders, who finished fourth in this year's Indian Premier League, needed to score 153 to ensure that they went through by virtue of a better net run rate than Pool A runners-up Ruhuna Rhinos.

Both sides will now play in Group B in the main draw, and will face each other again in Hyderabad in the first of their four fixtures on Sunday.

The group stage runs until Wednesday, 5 October, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals on Friday, 7 and Saturday, 8 October.

Chennai is scheduled to host the final on Sunday, 9 October (1530 BST).
