Captain Charlotte Edwards hit a century as she led England's women cricketers to a 96-run win which sealed a series victory over South Africa.

Edwards' 138 and 77 from Sarah Taylor helped England to 315-6 in the second one-day international in Potchefstroom.

South Africa were all out for 219 in 47.3 overs in response with Dane van Nierkerk top scoring on 44.

The decisive victory gives England's women an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Danni Wyatt, who later picked up a couple of wickets, contributed 37 to an opening stand of 88 with Edwards before Taylor came to the crease. Edwards and Taylor then enjoyed a fine second-wicket partnership of 159.

Edwards' fifth one-day international hundred came up in 135 minutes off 116 balls and included 22 boundaries. Taylor's half-century took 62 minutes and 50 balls.

"It was a good all-round team performance today," Edwards said. "I'm really pleased how we've come back with our bowling and our fielding performance.

"It's always nice to clinch a series and to contribute to that is fantastic. I was really pleased with how I played today, I wanted to get a big score out here.

"Sarah and I have batted a lot together - she's world class."

Taylor was out in the 41st over, caught behind by Alison Hodgkinson off the left-arm fast bowling of Chloe Tryon.

The same combination finally claimed Edwards' wicket two overs later.

South Africa never looked like troubling the England total and lost four wickets for 11 runs in 16 deliveries to slump to 147-6.

Heather Knight took her first international wicket when she had Proteas captain Cri-zelda Brits caught by Jenny Gunn for six.

Laura Marsh, Danni Hazell and Arran Brindle all claimed a pair of wickets as South Africa were bowled out in the 48th over.

The final match of the series takes place at the same ground on Tuesday.
