Glamorgan's Jim Allenby has signed a contract extension that could keep him at the county until the end of the 2014 season.

The deal comes under a month after he was named Glamorgan's Twenty20 captain for 2012.

The all-rounder's contract takes him through the 2013 season, when a further 12-month option would be available.

Allenby said: "I'm delighted to commit myself to Glamorgan cricket for the long term."

Director of cricket Colin Metson said: "Jim is an integral part of the Glamorgan team and we are delighted that he has made this commitment . . . for the foreseeable future."

Wicketkeeper Mark Wallace is Glamorgan's skipper for their County Championship Division Two and CB40 teams.

But the Welsh county broke from tradition by naming a different leader for their Twenty20 campaign, while Allenby has also been named county vice-captain.

Allenby, who joined Glamorgan from Leicestershire in 2009, signed a new Glamorgan contract until the end of the 2012 season in January.

He hit 264 runs for Glamorgan in 12 T20 games at an average of 26.40 in 2011.
