New Kent signing Mike Powell is looking forward to being reunited with former team-mate Geraint Jones.
The pair played for Abergavenny CC when wicket-keeper Jones, who was brought up in Australia, first came to UK.
"If I had to pick one player out, it would be Geraint. We spent a number of years in my village, Crickhowell," Powell told BBC Radio Kent.
"We actually played rugby union together for a year or two. I am very close with Geraint."
Jones spent three years at Abergavenny CC playing alongside Powell before going on to forge a successful career with Kent and England.
Powell has now moved to Kent after being released by Glamorgan following 15 seasons with the Welsh county.
Their paths first crossed in Australia, Powell confirmed.
"In 1996 when I went over to Australia to play grade cricket I actually played against Geraint, so I've known him for a long time," he said.
Powell is Kent's second signing of the winter, following Nottinghamshire seamer Charlie Shreck to the St Lawrence Ground, and is expected to bolster a batting line-up weakened by the departures of Joe Denly and Martin van Jaarsveld.
Kent have also parted company with coach Paul Farbrace and have yet to appoint his successor, but Powell said the uncertainty had not concerned him when deciding to move to the county.
He said: "I think it has very little bearing on any player joining any club, it's the players and the team as a whole."
