Northants have signed last season's second XI seam bowler Sam Sweeney on a two-year deal.
The 20-year-old also made one first-team appearance in 2011, playing in Northants' five-wicket win over Warwickshire in the CB40.
Sweeney said: "Everyone has made me feel part of the team. I am looking forward to this challenge.
"I will try and push for a first XI spot, whilst continuing to improve my all-round game."
The Preston-born bowler previously played for Lancashire under-19s.
Head coach David Capel said: "Sam has impressed the coaching staff through producing some encouraging performances in our second Xl during 2011.
"He is settling in Northampton well during the off-season and working hard on the physical and technical aspects of his game."
