Derbyshire's Wes Durston and Dan Redfern both hit centuries as their clash with Hampshire at Southampton ended in a predictable draw.

The hosts declared on their overnight 352-8, and with no agreement on a contrived result, Derbyshire went in search of batting bonus points.

They got all five thanks to Redfern's career-best 133 and 121 from Durston as they put on 178 for the fourth wicket.

Derbyshire eventually reached 403-9 before the sides shook hands.

James Tomlinson and Kabir Ali both took three wickets for Hampshire, while Tony Palladino (22 not out) and Tim Groenewald (20 not out) saw the visitors past 400 with an unbroken last-wicket stand of 44.

VIEWS FROM THE COMMENTARY BOX

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James:

"It was a shame that both captains couldn't agree a run chase at the start of the day.

"Hampshire wanted Derbyshire to chase for longer, but the visitors wanted the chase to be shorter.

"Playing for bonus points didn't do the day justice, but at this stage of the season perhaps it's understandable."

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM:

Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams told BBC Radio Solent:

"I think both sides were hoping for a result but it was not to be.

"We were hopeful and I think they were keen for a game but what we thought was fair was different to what they thought was fair.

"Both teams want to go into it thinking it is in your favour and we couldn't come to an agreement."
