Jonathan Trott says Kevin Pietersen's decision to retire from international limited-overs cricket is disappointing but understandable.
The Warwickshire batsman also claimed his fellow 31-year-old's decision "wasn't a huge surprise".
Pietersen, the only England player to surpass 1,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket, announced his retirement on Thursday.
"You can understand it in a way, but it's a huge disappointment as well," said his team-mate Trott.
Pietersen has enjoyed a stellar limited-overs career and was named player of the tournament as England won the World Twenty20 in 2010, when he averaged 62.
He is England's sixth all-time highest-scoring batsman in one-day internationals with 4,184 runs at an average of 41.84.
"Kev's his own guy and has to make his own decisions. The team fully support his decision," Trott said.
"Whatever he decides to do with his cricketing career is fine."
Both Trott and Pietersen are expected to feature in the third and final Test against West Indies at Edgbaston, which starts on Thursday.
