Derbyshire's County Championship match against promotion rivals Yorkshire was abandoned as a draw after no play was possible at Queen's Park on day four.
The umpires inspected the Chesterfield ground on four separate occasions but were forced to call the game off.
Wet weather, which had meant no play since the close on day one, rendered the outfield unplayable.
The two sides are scheduled to meet again at the same venue on Sunday in the CB40 competition.
Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: "The damage was done on the previous two days. The risk of someone slipping in the conditions was pretty high."
Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen added: "If we had played it was going to be dangerous and we didn't want to risk any injuries."
