Guernsey clubs lead CI Cricket Championship groups

Guernsey clubs are top of both groups in the Channel Island Cricket Championship after wins at the weekend.

In Group A Cobo continued their perfect start to the season with a nine-wicket win over Wanderers.

Odey ORs are still top of Group B after a tense one-wicket victory over Jersey champions Springfield.

Guernsey Player of the Year Tom Ravenscroft starred for Cobo as they thrashed Wanderers at the KGV as he top-scored with bat and ball.

Cobo bowled out their opponents for 145 with Ravenscroft taking five wickets for 28 runs before hitting 80 including nine fours and three sixes as Cobo made their target in 23.1 overs.

Cenkos Emerging Players are second in the table after beating Jersey side Farmers by five wickets at Guernsey's College Field.

Farmers were bowled out for just 90 runs before Jeremy Frith hit an unbeaten 39 as the up and coming stars of Guernsey cricket reached 95-5.

Odey ORs won a nail biter against Springfield at Grainville to top Group B.

Springfield hit 265-7 as they opened the batting with John Prince and Henry Wickham both scoring 59 and Matt Hague getting 56.

But Odeys scraped home with 266-9, Lee Savident top-scoring with 68 before becoming one of Ryan Driver's five victims.

Opener Adam Martel got 55 and Adam Le Page guided his side home with an important 35 not out to get their second successive win.

In the group's other match Sporting Club Francais began their campaign with a victory as they beat Jersey rivals St Ouen by seven wickets at Les Quennevais.

St Ouen ended their innings on 188-9 and looked as though they could cause an upset after restricting Sporting Club to 11-2 early on.

But a third-wicket stand of 148 between Sam Taylor (87) and Lee Meloy (63 not out) helped Sporting Club get the win.
