Lancashire have moved their County Championship fixture against Durham from Old Trafford to Aigburth.
The Red Rose played most of their Championship fixtures at the ground last year as they won the competition.
Old Trafford is undergoing a multi-million pound regeneration to bring back Test cricket for the 2013 Ashes.
"This game falls during a busy period and it will allow them to complete key activities without a four-day game," said cricket director Mike Watkinson.
"Given that we made a significant investment prior to 2011 on the pitches at Liverpool it makes sense to utilise this resource during this period."
The fixture starts on 28 August and Lancashire will be looking to improve on a record of just one win the championship so far this season.
