Steve Magoffin took four wickets against his old county as Sussex bowled out Worcestershire inside two sessions on a rain-hit day at Hove.

After being put into bat, morning rain meant that it was after lunch before the Worcestershire openers took guard.

But, after the loss of 33 overs, Sussex soon made up for lost time bowling out the visitors for 162.

Magoffin (4-34) was backed by Amjad Khan (3-36) and James Anyon (2-39), before Sussex got to 22-0 at the close.

Only Moeen Ali (43) put up any real resistance to the home attack before some late heroics from paceman Richard Jones.

Inspired by the offer of a new Worcestershire contract following recent interest from Derbyshire, Jones smashed five fours in an impressive 30 not out.

It was a memorable day for Ed Joyce on his first day in his new role as Sussex captain as his bowlers dismissed Worcestershire in 53.4 overs.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Worcestershire tail ender Richard Jones:

"I've worked hard on my batting and always said I'd love to be thought of as a batting allrounder.

"But, if I can't do that, I can still be a decent number eight and contribute with runs down the order and that will do for me.

"This pitch looks it might have something in it and I'm looking forward to running in tomorrow and trying to do what they've done to us."
