Ridiculous. The man he criticized has since retired and still he is left out in the cold. This could have been resolved weeks ago, but now we are leaving our best batsman at home for a World T20 and a tour. Do you really feel he will have such a bad impact on the team standing at cover?Private school chums, over-ruling a better cricketer.
KP isn't a saint, nobody is, the guy made a few mistakes , however !Let's not hold a grudge , and move on having England in mind ! The TEAM had always performed better with KP on the side, he is not the best but he is the one that makes the difference, he takes the pression of the other batters, it's let them play with more freedom. He hadn't passed tactical imformation , so, what's the problem ?
The REAL solution to this is for English Cricket to move forward 200 years. But I know a few old dinosaurs who will have to disappear before it happens.
@160Presumably you aren't referring to the central contract rules which KP wanted changed to suit him, his brand, his lifestyle and his cash-flow?? Or the rules about how centrally contracted players should only give press releases through the correct channels?Or the (unwritten but obvious) rule about not calling your own captain a doos to the opposition?Or the rules about
Madness that you go on tour without your best player because he has to live by rules that other don't.
This is getting ridiculous.... either :-1) Select him2) Ban him for a set period3) Ban him for lifeThen everyone knows where they stand
119.kpisno1 18th September 2012 - 22:42 You can say and think what you like but stats dont lie and i know who my first pick for any england tour in any format would be ---------------------------------------------------All well and good, but what happens if he decides that he doesn't want to play that one?Correct decision to leave out. Let's move on
Face facts. KP is above all else a mercenary. England is not his adopted country...in his own words "it's where I go to work!". Ultimately he will go the highest bidder and if that means overdoing reverse sweeps in front mexican-waving chumps being fleeced to watch rigged matches, then so be it.Goodbye KP. I'd rather go with players who want to play for England for the honour, not the cash!
KP makes nuts, enough said? To tell the truth I'm sad he's not playing but glad we had the backbone to leave out our best player. On a slightly different topic - is anybody else peed off that there are no TV highlights of the T20 games for us poor people that can't afford Sky?
KP is no different to any other professional - sportsman or otherwise- in that his market value is dictated by what an employer is prepared to invest. His native country didn't think he was worth it and now the ECB don't think he's worth it but IPL do. So be it. Be honest, if you were paying his wages would you have put up with his behaviour towards you over the last 2 years?
No player ever has an automatic right to selection. Certainly, ability is of major importance but not to the exclusion of commitment and character.Just as the playing balance of the team is important ( who would play 7 batsmen and 3 spinners? ) so too is the cohesiveness of the dressing room. KP has simply been too disruptive for far too long.Well done selectors!
Like many people, KP thinks that he should be allowed to say whatever he likes with no recrimination. If he wants to be respected and continue to play for his adopted country, he should learn to keep his mouth shut and stop twitting every thought that comes into his head.
Sometimes you have to amputate a limb to save the body. For the folk who keep dragging GS, SB, JA into this or who say KP is so 'box office' to them that they will not watch England this winter, it shows you up to be heathen ignorants, your own loyalty to the England cause is as questionable as FIGJAM himself. If you want to watch talented individuals play sport, go watch tennis or golf instead.
It seems Pietersen has prostrated himself at the feet of the ECB but it's still not enough. Some people on the board obviously hold a grudge for some reason or another which is sad for the England cricket team as a whole. Miller talks about Pietersen disrupting the dressing room but what about some of the others in there? I don't feel KP is solely to blame here.
