Middlesex: Adam Voges to replace Chris Rogers during Ashes

Adam Voges

Middlesex have confirmed that Adam Voges will replace Chris Rogers while the 35-year-old batsman is on international duty with Australia.

Fellow Australian Voges, 33, was already set to play Twenty20 cricket for the county this summer.

Managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "Losing Chris for the Ashes is a blow, but we believe Adam will be an excellent replacement.

"He was more than happy to fill in and we are delighted to have him on board."

Rogers, who captains Middlesex in the four-day game, was a surprise inclusion in Australia's squad for the Ashes when it was announced last month.

However, Fraser said the county had been sounding out potential replacements should Rogers be selected for international duty.

"Prior to the season we were aware that Chris could be picked for Australia," Fraser added.

"We spoke to Adam during our T20 negotiations about the possibility of him replacing Chris should Australia selection or injury arise.

"Adam continues to show everyone what a quality player he is and we know he is a top man too.

"We look forward to welcoming him on board and we know he will fit into our team extremely well."

Voges will join Middlesex on 24 June straight after representing Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy.

He will play in their 10 FL t20 group games and then remain in north London for four County Championship and four YB40 games.
