Why would you not make NZ bat again when they're under such pressure? With the awful weather forecast for Day 5, NZ haven't a hope of making so many runs that they have a chance to bowl England out. The Test series cannot be lost by England, so what's the problem?????
A fit KP is a must for the Ashes - unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen - not enough time. As infuriating as he sometimes is, he is still a BIG GAME PLAYER, can win you games and can do well when it matters. Unlike Mr.Bell.
Cook is the most boring, unimaginative captain in the world, perhaps ever. No wonder punters dont want to watch England play. Yawn. Have some ambition. Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Mark Taylor, Stephen Fleming and co must all be sitting there laughing.

2 ours since icc announce 2019 worldcup in England. still no mention of it on the bbc. last aports website to report on it well done beeb.
I agreed with England batting again but only if they were going to bat quickly. With tomorrow looking likely to be a wash out, England may well have destroyed their chances of winning. On the other hand if NZ bat like they have so far this summer it could be over by tea.
@67 So even if Compton had scored 50+ what would it have achieved ? That he can score runs when a games over with no pressure on ? It's a no win situation, one there was no need to put him in. The result is the overall objective and Cook compromised our chances by batting, though we will probably still win, not the right decision. Not as if Compton has not proved he can score runs at all levels.
bat for 2 days and draw. Win the series simple. brilliant performance by bowlers to win this series.
@66 Rubbish, whether you agree with batting again or not, Compton needs to take the chance's on offer whatever the circumstances, he couldn't have had a better opportunity to knock 50 or more. He needed to step up against a soft bowling attack in good batting conditions..it doesn't get better than that.
Should have enforced the follow on, Comptons not going to thank him for the " practise " and Trotts playing average bowling like its Mcgraph and Warne at their peak. We will probably still win but why take chances ?
don't worry about your team not enforcing the follow on against "East Bondi" @61, capt Cook needed a knock to get his mojo back for the ashes and 'dang gamit' it looks like he has!!!
why bring back Pietersen he is so often out for nought in winnable matches and only rarely makes big scores, even then often in matches that are already lost.
I think the right move for the Ashes would be to drop Compton and replace him with a returning KP, Bell opens the batting with Cook and Pietersen brings back that assurance and added depth in the batting. Good to see Swann taking a 4-fer and Cook finding his touch almost like England restoring order, a good day of cricket.
I don't understand all the complaints about England not enforcing the follow-on. Surely with the Ashes series looming large over the horizon it is better to get some batting practice, set the Kiwis a large fourth innings total to overhaul, and allow the selectors to make an informed decision as to who should face the Aussies. I am still confident of an England victory.
rather a shame to see England settle for the draw - with Tuesday certain to be rained off it would have been better to make NZ follow on and go for a big victory.
