Cornwall make MCCA Trophy knockout stages after victories

Cornwall topped the MCCA Trophy group after impressive victories over Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Duchy secured a 16-run win over Oxfordshire at Challow on Sunday as Chris Hunkin hit 56 while Neil Curnow got 47 as they ended on 226-8.

In reply skipper Tom Sharp took 5-29 as Oxfordshire were bowled out for 210.

A day later Cornwall cruised to a 56-run win over Bedfordshire at Corple Angus to ensure they topped the group.

After losing the toss Cornwall were put into bat and wasted no time in racking up a big total, as five players scored over 40, led by opener Matthew Robins (66) and Hunkin (48) as they finished on 328-7.

It was a total that the home side never looked close to surpassing, as they ended their innings on 272-9 as former Pakistan international Shakil Ahmed took three wickets.
