Half-centurions Michael Carberry and Liam Dawson helped Hampshire secure a draw with Kent as the visitors batted through to the final session.

Resuming on 15-0, 93 behind, Carberry (66) and Jimmy Adams (12) survived the first hour before Hampshire passed Kent's overnight lead.

And with Dawson reaching 78 not out, the two sides shook hands after tea with the visitors on 200-4, 92 ahead.

James Tredwell led the home side's attack with three wickets.

Carberry had made 154 in Hampshire's first innings while Dawson ended the match with two fifties.

"It was a pitch that had draw written all over it from ball one, although the way it was arrived at was not top of the list.

"After Kent went past the Hampshire first innings total, they were committed to bowling the visiting side out.

"However only James Tredwell was a threat even though the odd ball that turned did so slowly.

"Liam Dawson had to bat well on the last day to ensure there were no alarms from the Hampshire point of view."
