Ashes Down Under Plan:1. Bring back Compton as opener2. Drop Bairstow and push Root down the order3. Get Prior and Trott some county games to find form4. Get Tremlett fit and in the 12 man squad5. Win Ashes. Again. For 5th time in 6 series
England have not actually played very well. Cook, Trott, Prior and Bairstow have contributed little, KP has been below his best and Root has only succeeded in one innings out of eight! Even Jimmy has flatlined since his excellent first Test. Lord only knows what that says about how bad the Aussies are!
@251Even the infamous Rolf Harris is under the operation Yewtree spotlight!
Root scores one decent hit in 8 innings and he's kept on as an opener..... good job Broad can bowl and the Aussies cannot bat... so far Root has only managed one knock over 20 .... pathetic. We cannot keep hoping Broad does his magic..and Bell carries Root.Root so far 30, 5, 6, 180, 8, 13, 16 and 2) ..Time to move on and find someone who can open..... thanks Broad but please ! Root needs to go
I feel sorry for the Aussies rubbish at cricket and rugby, even at the Olympics their medal tally was poor. All they have left is Rolph Harris!
@240 There are indeed worse teams - I agree that Australia are probably unfortunate to find themselves 3-0 down. They have a lot of flaws and the overall performance has been inconsistent, but they pushed England hard at Old Trafford and again at Durham. Given their overall performance they probably deserve a Test victory from the series, but I hope that won't he happening at the Oval!
A remarkable victory in Durham. I do not think that this is a great England team by any stretch of the imagination, but they do have the invaluable quality of resilience. Someone from within this England team always seems to produce something special just when they need it most, if only we could bottle up and preserve this 'something special'!
A very general comment: I find the tone of some of the comments here unduly spiteful and unpleasant. A bit more courtesy and consideration for the opinions of others - however misguided they may seem - would be very welcome and make this thread more enjoyable for everyone. Life is simply too short for some of the unwarranted nastiness I am seeing here.
@242:'To prove how rubbish English cricket is and how exciting and popular Indian IPL is...'And (with reference to the latter), it would appear, corrupt.
@243 244 245.Who cares about the money ECB earns from Sky... what benefits has that generated?.Nothing! BBC can't afford to outbid Sky for a national sport when they have compulsory unfair way of generating income via TV licence from the entire population of UK?Test matches are slow for slow old people who can't hack the ups and downs of T20 their brains can't handle the excitement and pace.
@242. You wouldn't understand mate - Appreciating Test cricket requires a brain.
242 king kamTest match cricket is beyond the likes of you, its like a 4 year old with crayons trying to do differential calculus. You should stick to the IPL pajama party.
@242 Er ITV4 is that a boast? ECB decided to sell to Sky for millions more than the BBC could afford. Oddly Sky didnt bid for the IPL cos oddly it doesnt pull in the viewers and lack of interest.
This may hurt those posh guys at lords but Test cricket is boring especially when England play that's why the BBC don't even show it on national TV anymore its not seen as an important national sport. To prove how rubbish English cricket is and how exciting and popular Indian IPL is you only have to check the free coverage IPL fans enjoy in this country on ITV4 all the matches are shown live.
As an occasional cricket watcher, England seem to have bumbled their way to 3-0. A lot of people were saying (before Broad's little effort) that England didn't deserve 3-0. To me both sides were as inconsistent as each other - you had 1 or 2 batsmen on each side who delivered, 1 or 2 bowlers too, but the rest were average to poor.
