Gareth Roderick hit his second successive century for Gloucestershire as they drew with Essex.
Chasing an unlikely 432 for victory Roderick gave his side a sniff before falling to Graham Napier on 136.
Michael Klinger made 62 to pass 1,000 first-class runs for the season while Reece Topley picked up 3-70.
After slipping to 306-6, Tom Smith (33no) and Will Gidman (16no) steadied things and moved the score to 355-6 before the captains shook hands.
