Debutant Mohammed Shami took five wickets as India beat West Indies by an innings and 51 runs inside three days.
Ravichandran Ashwin scored 124 at number eight to lift India's first innings total to 453 in reply to the Windies' 234.
Ashwin then took three wickets as the tourists crumbled from 101-1 to 168 all out in the first Test in Kolkata.
Seamer Shami, 23, tore through the middle order to take 5-47 and finish with match figures of 9-118.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was out for 10 to a marginal lbw decision in India's first innings, bowled three wicketless overs on the third day.
The final Test of his record-breaking career begins in Mumbai on 14 November.
