Please please not Giles. Just not good enough at top level. He wouldn't have a chance of managing the likes of KP and Broad. I'm not sure there is a great English candidate so agree with going for Kirsten.
I really hope they don't go for Ashley Giles, Gary Kirsten is the man he took both India and South Africa to number 1 in the world.
He did a great job bringing in a number of South Africans to provide some grit and talent to what became a hybrid SA-england team. But with a number of those imports now ill, off form or past their best he is likely without a similar set of fresh contacts. That leaves the soft underbelly of English cricket once more to the fore, which is hardly Flowers fault.
As an expatriate living in NZ i think it is a joke that the BBC still finds it more important to report on English cricket sinking to a new low against Australia without reporting that New Zealand have just competed a 4-0 drubbing of India, the so called 50 over World Champions and leader of the ICC coup. For goodness sake, pull your collective heads out of the brown and wake up.
If the ecb rate Giles then could that explain the on field performances. Its a shambles on the pitch but it's now obviously shambolic off it,downton is overseeing a nightmare and worse the Aussies are rubbing it in so big the careers of 4 or 5 senior men are either ending or at major risk of ending. We need to remember this next ashes tour and target Lehmans career, or is that not cricket!
He's done an excellent job but like many people either lost concentration, became complacent or like his players just got tired of the constant traveling. There is just too much international cricket! The ICC, like FIFA has become a money grabbing organisation with no standards. Test matches should be something to savour. Now they have become routine. Blame the ICC. Not guys like Flower
It's as though the steel in the side was replaced by a banana. All the Aussies did was take the peel off to reveal how soft England had become since the latter part of last year.Cook should remain as a batsman but he's no captain - who's good enough to survive the pressure with the nads to front up players when the team hits the skids?
Best wishes to AF, he has been the best coach that I have seen in my 40 odd years of watching England cricket. In my view, it looks like there has been some unrest behind the scenes and I bet we can guess where that originated. To go from a well drilled, highly competitive, successful side to one that has been humiliated by a fairly ordinary one (Haddin, Johnson, Clarke apart) smacks of despair!
Sorry to see Andy Flower go, as he has done a great job for England. The person who should join him is KP he thinks he is bigger than the England and since he has been back in the team, the team sprit has gone, he should never have been allowed back after the issue with South Africa,as for getting rid of Alistair Cook it would be wrong, he has been a very good player for England.
Andy Flower has done a great job and should be congratulated on his success in improving the performance of the England team. If Ashley Giles is appointed the old standards of mediocrity will be re-established. Gone will be the heady days of world number one. Of course, Beefy, Bumble and the rest of the Sky 'experts' only became so in retrospect. The wonder of a failing memory!!!
So Flower goes and a nice little job is found for him with the ECB and what about Captain Cook?
We were all disappointed with the loss in Australia but this followed great success. Andy Flower has moved on English cricket. Ashley Giles was no more successful so perhaps it is time to look at the players performance. it is all too easy to blame the coach or manager.
