Only 12.5 overs were played as day two of Surrey's County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan at the Oval was badly affected by rain.
The hosts were hoping to build on their first day total of 182-5, but the weather delayed play under 12:20 BST.
When they did get started, Zafar Ansari moved on to 60 as Jason Roy was caught behind and Tom Curran went for a duck.
But, when the rain picked up again, Surrey went off for lunch on 209-7 and they failed to get back on the field.
BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:
"It has been a frustrating day with just 12.5 overs possible. In that time Surrey moved past 200 and picked up a first batting point of the summer and Glamorgan picked up a couple more wickets.
"But Zafar Ansari is still there unbeaten on 60 and the home side will be looking to push on to 250 tomorrow morning.
"The best bit of news is that the sun is meant to arrive in south London tomorrow."
