Jacques Rudolph's century helped Glamorgan build a decent first-innings lead over Kent on day two at Cardiff.
Michael Hogan (5-58) took the last two wickets as Kent added just 17 runs to their overnight total before being dismissed for 253.
Glamorgan's South African opener Rudolph (103) and Mark Wallace (82) then put on 181 for the second wicket.
Half-centuries from Chris Cooke (54 no) and Jim Allenby (59 no) saw the hosts reach 337-4 at close, a lead of 84.
Rudolph's century was the first by a Glamorgan player this season, while Hogan's haul means the Australian has now taken 25 wickets this summer.
BBC Radio Wales' Edward Bevan:
"Glamorgan's batsmen dominated the second day and are strongly placed to gain a substantial first-innings lead.
"Jacques Rudolph and Mark Wallace led the way with a 181-run partnership for the second wicket, with Rudolph becoming the first Glamorgan batsman to score a Championship hundred this season.
"Despite losing three wickets for 16 runs, Jim Allenby and Chris Cooke consolidated Glamorgan's position with a productive unbroken partnership of 122.
"Peter Such, England's spin bowling coach, was in attendance to assess Glamorgan's Andrew Salter and Kent's Andrew Riley, and they responded by taking two wickets apiece."
