Yorkshire blew a chance to go within a point of top spot in T20 Blast North Group as Durham defended a low score with surprising ease at Headingley.
Tykes spinners Adil Rashid (3-14) and Azeem Rafiq (3-20) helped limit Durham to 123-9.
Yorkshire looked well set on 47-1, only to suffer four run-outs.
Australian seamer John Hastings took 3-22 and leg spinner Scott Borthwick 2-11 as Yorkshire were bowled out for 95 with 16 balls unused.
Phil Mustard top scored with 40, while Jamaican Gareth Breese hit a six and four fours in his 30 not out, sharing a crucial, unbroken last-wicket stand of 29 with Chris Rushworth.
Durham's win moved them into fifth spot, four points adrift of the top two, ahead of Friday night's home game with third-placed Nottinghamshire.
Yorkshire remain in fourth, still in the quarter-final qualification places, before heading for New Road to face leaders Worcestershire on Friday.
