Giles White urges Hampshire to bounce back

Hampshire lost their T20 Blast semi-final to Lancashire by 41 runs at the weekend

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White says it is important his side forget their T20 Finals Day disappointment quickly if they are to keep their promotion bid on track.

The county, who are second in Division Two, limped out of the T20 competition at the semi-final stage last Saturday.

They now have three remaining County Championship matches to earn promotion, starting with Leicestershire on Sunday.

"It's important we put the weekend disappointment behind us," said White.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, White continued: "During the season there is a lot to think about for the players and the staff with three competitions, but we are well-placed in the division and we need to build on that to make sure we play good cricket and get over the line."

Following Leicestershire, the county face Kent and Glamorgan and, having targeted promotion at the start of the season, White is aware they are now facing a final push to go up.

"We just need to focus," he said. "It's something we aimed for which is why it's important.

"It's the reason we trained and what we play for to win trophies and get promoted.

"Whoever we play against we have to play well. Their (Leicestershire) division placing means that they are not under pressure and they can play with freedom and that makes them dangerous.

"They've got talented players, but we know if we can play well then hopefully we will come out on top. We are well placed, it's important we build on that."
