Andrew McBrine's five wickets helped the North West Warriors earn a 44-run win over the Northern Knights in the Inter-Provincial contest at Eglinton.

At stumps on Wednesday, the Knights were 152-5 in their second innings and needing 117 more runs to win.

The Knights moved to 184-5 but McBrine struck three blows in quick succession to put the Warriors in control.

Shane Getrake and Neil Gill added 32 runs but Jared Barnes and Craig Young then cleaned up the tail.

McBrine had James McCollum [35] taken at slip off a bat-pad, with James Cameron-Dow [18] lobbing one to short cover and Adam Dennison bowled when attempted an ambitious cut shot.

Getkate [23] and Neil Gill [11 no] dug in adding a further 32 runs without any undue alarms, which forced skipper McBrine to switch tactics, reverting to his pace attack after taking the second new ball.

The move paid immediate dividends, with Barnes trapping Getkate lbw, and in the next over Young had Zac Rushe caught by Scott Campbell at third slip.

The win was the first by the Warriors in this format of the game, and coupled with their T20 Trophy victory earlier in the summer represents a good return for Bobby Rao's young charges.

The Knights still have two 50-over matches left against Leinster Lightning next month.

Victories in both would see them defend their title they won in 2013.
