Alex Gidman scored a century in his final game for Gloucestershire as the visitors closed in on victory against Kent in their last match of 2014.

Gidman, who will join Worcestershire at the end of the season, hit 140 from 178 balls to push Gloucestershire to 432 all out in their second innings.

David Griffiths was the pick of Kent's bowlers, wrapping up the tail to finish with a career-best 6-63.

Chasing 448 to win, the home side reached 95-4 at the close.

Kent require another 353 runs on the final day to achieve victory at Canterbury, where much will depend on their two unbeaten batsmen, captain Sam Northeast (28 not out) and veteran Darren Stevens (19 not out).

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt:

"With younger brother Will getting an unbeaten century in his last innings and Alex scoring 140 today, it was a good day for the Gidman family.

"It meant that each of the brothers finished their Gloucestershire careers with a century in their final knock before moving on to pastures new.

"It was a good day all round for the visitors, with four Kent wickets shared between their young opening attack and they should finish the game off on the final day.

"What a win it would be, having been 62-8 at lunch on the first day."
