This week he was named in the England One-Day squad to tour Sri Lanka.
"I am absolutely delighted that Ravi has signed his new contract," said Essex head coach Paul Grayson.
"He has become one of the senior figures in our dressing room, and is a key component of our side in each form of the game.
"He has been with Essex for a long time, and it is great news for all our members and fans that he has signed his new deal."

He also 13 Test caps, 108 one-day international appearances and 38 international T20 games to his name, and was recently named on the England and Wales Cricket Board's incremental contract list.
