Wicketkeeper Tom Poynton has signed a new deal that will keep him at Derbyshire until the end of 2016.
Poynton missed the entire 2014 season with leg injuries sustained in a car crash in which his father was killed.
The 25-year-old has played 33 first-class games and made his return in the pre-season tour of Dubai.
"Tom has shown exceptional character since the tragic events that ended his season," elite performance director Graeme Welch told the club website.
"He has worked tirelessly, both in training and in his off-the-field role, to prepare him for his return. Everyone at the club is delighted to see him back on the field.
"We hope the new contract will now give him the confidence to go out and express himself this summer. He has shown good form since his return to training, and in Abu Dhabi, and we hope this continues."
