Heavy showers meant play was abandoned as a draw between Hampshire and Nottinghamshire

Just 9.4 overs of cricket were possible on day four at the Ageas Bowl as Hampshire's game against Nottinghamshire finished as a draw.

Notts declared on their overnight score of 296-4 to leave a target of 392, but rain washed out the morning session.

When play finally got underway at 13:20 BST, the hosts moved to 29-0 before the showers returned.

The umpires were hopeful of resuming at 15:00 BST, but the weather closed in once again and play was abandoned.

Nottinghamshire have now drawn all three of their Division One games, while Hampshire have won one and drawn two.

Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams:

"I think coming into today the draw was all we could hope for.

"I have the confidence we could have batted the day, it would have been a good challenge.

"So far this season our seamers have done a lot of yards and we have spent a lot of time in the field - and that can take its toll.

"The batting isn't firing properly. Everyone has had starts but we have only had one hundred as a group, that's an area we need to rectify as the season progresses."

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell:

"We knew the weather forecast wasn't very good and the way the rain came it was very heavy which made the groundsman's job very difficult.

"It would have been an interesting day today. I think Hampshire would have fancied chancing the 390 down on a normal day and we believe we could have bowled them out.

"We are playing some very nice cricket and batting very positively. The batting is going amazingly well for this time of year. The amount of hundreds we are making as a team is a tremendous effort.

"We obviously want to turn that into wins. The batsman want to win games as much as scoring individual scores."
