Muhammad Azharullah: Northants have 2013 T20 'momentum'

Northants celebrate
Northants have won four of their last five T20 Blast games

Northants have a similar T20 momentum to when they won the competition in 2013, says bowler Muhammad Azharullah.

The Steelbacks are currently third in the North Group, having won five of their 10 matches so far this summer.

"It's a similar kind of momentum, things are going our way, the boys are putting in the effort and the team combination is working well," he said.

"We're just winning the key moments - a home quarter-final is amazing, the crowd at Wantage Road is brilliant."

Azharullah, 31, was part of the team that beat Surrey in the final at Edgbaston two years ago.

They failed to reach the knockout stage last season and lost their opening three T20 Blast games this summer, but have recovered well since then, although their last three wins have come by just four runs or less.

The latest was Sunday's three-run Duckworth-Lewis victory over Derbyshire, in which Azharullah conceded just five runs and took a wicket in the final over to leave the hosts just short of a revised 144 from 18 overs.

"It's been hard for our supporters," Azharullah told BBC Radio Northampton. "We just need to work hard, keep going. if we keep winning the way we are, we'll take it.

"We're just providing entertainment, we've got another three home games and if we win them we'll get a home quarter-final."
