Mark Cosgrove's second century in as many Championship matches helped Leicestershire recover to take a first-innings lead against Northants.
After nightwatchman Rob Sayer was caught behind off Rory Kleinveldt (5-68), the visitors looked in deep trouble on 34-4 at Wantage Road.
But Cosgrove and Aadil Ali added 71 together, before Niall O'Brien smashed 95 off 84 balls.
Cosgrove eventually went for 110 as his side totalled 372, a lead of just 47.
Clint McKay was left stranded on 51 - his maiden Championship half-century for the county - as Muhummad Azharullah took his 300th first-class wicket when last man Charlie Shreck edged to Richard Levi at second slip.
There was further bad news for the hosts as Steven Crook was carried off on a stretcher after tripping over the boundary rope and injuring his ankle, making him a doubt for T20 Blast Finals Day next Saturday.
