Leicestershire and Gloucestershire had to settle for a draw on the final day at Grace Road after an enterprising attempt to set up a positive result.

Gloucestershire declared their first innings on 269-8, 146 runs in arrears.

The home side then made 155-9 declared from 31.3 overs, as Dan Redfern top-scored with 74, including nine fours.

Facing a target of 302, Gloucestershire openers Will Tavare and Chris Dent both made 52, but they fell behind the rate and were 212-5 when the game ended.

Ben Raine and Wayne White took two wickets each for the home side, while Peter Handscomb (39) and Kieran Noema-Barnett (22) were the not out batsmen when a halt was called with 8.4 overs remaining.

Leicestershire's 11 points reduced the gap between them and second-from-bottom Kent to 29, with a home game against Essex and a trip to Derbyshire to come.

Gloucestershire, meanwhile, moved above Glamorgan into fourth place, but the Welsh county have a game in hand.
