Velani, 21, has made 310 runs at an average of 23.84 and made his maiden fifty against Gloucestershire in May.
"I'm over the moon to have signed with the club for two more years," he said.
"It's an exciting time with a number of younger players coming through. I'm looking forward to getting a lot more runs next season."
Essex cricket committee chairman Ronnie Irani added: "Kishen has shown over the last couple of seasons he has the attributes to be a really exciting talent in all forms of the game."
