Northants and Glamorgan had to settle for a draw in the final Championship game of the season at Wantage Road.
The home side resumed on 128-5 and Adam Rossington progressed to 59 before falling to Dewi Penrhyn Jones (3-55).
David Murphy (58) made a painstaking half-century as Northants were bowled out for 278, a lead of 45.
Despite losing three wickets for 19 runs, teenager Aneurin Donald (40 not out) guided Glamorgan to 99-3 before the match came to an end.
Richard Gleeson, who previously appeared for Northants in the tour match against Australia, took his first Championship wickets as he dismissed James Kettleborough (14) and Colin Ingram (14).
There was also concern for Northants as Olly Stone, who was named in the England Performance Program squad, limped off the field after seven balls.
Glamorgan head coach Toby Radford told BBC Wales Sport:
"There was potential for setting up a game, but we couldn't quite agree on what was a fair chase for them.
"We were under some pressure, we lost early wickets and if they'd come really hard at us we could have been under more pressure.
"I'm delighted with the way Aneurin Donald and Chris Cooke stood up. That defused the situation."
