Ben Foakes and Rikki Clarke shared an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 131 as the MCC fought back against Yorkshire on day two of the Champion County game.
Surrey wicketkeeper Foakes made 83 not out and Warwickshire all-rounder Clarke was unbeaten on 56 as the MCC closed on 282-6 - a first-innings lead of seven.
Earlier, captain Ian Bell struck 44 and Rory Burns hit 51, but the MCC fell to 151-6 before the late recovery.
Seamer Tim Bresnan (3-51) was the pick of Yorkshire's bowlers.
County champions Yorkshire reduced their opponents to 14-2 early on in Abu Dhabi before Bell, who has stated his intention to win back a place in England's Test team, and Burns took the MCC to 103-2.
Bresnan eventually tempted Surrey opener Burns to edge behind and Bell fell soon after, swiping teenage spinner Karl Carver into the hands of Steven Patterson at mid-on.
Once Samit Patel and Tom Westley were out cheaply to leave the MCC six down and still 124 behind, a first-innings deficit looked likely.
But Foakes and Clarke batted throughout the evening session until bad light brought an early close.
