Strauss says they can't sack Morgan but how can they select a leader who deserted his troops when it got a bit sticky? I wouldn't select him again under any circumstances.
ECB and Strauss hang your heads in shame, come on Somerset get the win
somerset have a great chance I can see middlesex and yorkshire a draw.
@95 Totally agree, the climax of the county season and the teams are going off for bad light in the televised match while the floodlights stand idle and useless because of some silly regulation. You couldn't make it up, it's as though the ECB are deliberately trying to kill off the longer form of the game, just crackers!
After the first day, could the title be decided by the light? This is bad planning by the ECB. As we all know, the quality of light deteriorates rapidly going into the second week of September, so why going towards the fourth week of the month to bring the season to its conclusion beggars belief. Couldn't have something to do with the one day overload which can be played under lights?
Its near the end of the first day and I can see Somerset getting a maximum points win - which means a draw would not be enough for Middlesex. So both Middx and Yorks will need a win which should mean a great finish to the season.
Yorkshire - yet again they've had to manage with so many quality first teamers playing for England, but there're still up there. I'm backing the Tykes.
63So what's their excuse in a normal summer when all teams north of Warwickshire have miserable weather every year? By your argument the weather should stop those from winning every year. But somehow Yorkshire have won it more than anyone else.
Yorkshire's rise in the long format means their players are key parts of England. So they are victims of their own success, unable to field the best they have because England think they are also the best they have. It's amazing Yorkshire have done so well without Root and Bairstow and there is no shame in missing out when your best players are stopped from playing.
My guess it'll be those that gain most points at the end of the season ... !
The batsmen haven’t scored anywhere near enough runs for Yks this season. The openers have been decent but too often it’s been #6-11 scoring the runs.I’d only play 4 specialist batsmen in this and pack the team with bowlers who can bat.Bairstow has been a massive loss this season – he’s not centrally contracted so how can he be stopped from playing??Whatever, may the best team win.
Middlesex isn't even a County. Why are they in the 'County' Championship still?
76. Posted by Ugly Betsy 'Utterly pointless sport. I pay my licence fee for the Premier League, not this NONSENSE'.Oh you mean the license for the overpaid, prima donnas, some of who seem to have an attitude problem and are a major reason why it's no longer a working mans spectator sport......yea good one!
I feel sorry for all those chippy yorkies complaining about the unfairness of the Bairstow decision. If only there was some way they could even it out by using the financial resources at their disposal to lure promising young players from the cash-strapped smaller counties who developed them. That lad Duckett looks good. I wonder if he wants to be reunited with Willey and Brooks.Go Somerset.
Come on Somerset go for the win and let the other results take care of themselves. What and end to the season.
Fantastic that there's such an exciting end to the County Championship, hopefully it won't be demeaned if/when the new 20/20 comp gets off the ground. Good luck to all three teams. Still waiting for the day when the mighty Glos become champions.
Who ever wins maybe they could move in to the Olympic stadium, West ham wont be able to fill it next year playing in the re named 2 second division.
It is for Middlesex to lose - Strauss has helped his old side so hopefully they wont embarrass themselves and not clinch the title.
@76Don't you mean your parents pay the fee??
