Chris Nash and Luke Wells made half-centuries as Sussex took control on a second day of weather-interrupted play against Gloucestershire.

Chris Dent (90) was caught and bowled by Jofra Archer while David Payne's 56 before his exit helped the hosts to a first-innings total of 229.

Sussex opener Nash (66) was the second of Josh Shaw's scalps, with the seamer ending his day with 4-45.

Wells went on 75, as the visitors ended a day punctuated by rain on 208-4.

Sussex opening batsman Chris Nash told BBC Surrey: "It would have been nice to have got a couple more hundreds this season, but 12 times past 50 and just under 1,300 runs is nice.

"This winter is all about more work, I won't stop. There is a huge amount of hard work to do in January, February and March.

"I want to improve in four-day cricket and make big improvements in white-ball cricket."
