India v England: Hosts agree to use decision review system in Test series

The decision review system will be used in England's Test series in India starting next month after the hosts agreed to "trial" the technology.

India are the only Test team not to have accepted DRS, which involves predicting the ball's path.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it will "evaluate the improvements".

England batsman Moeen Ali overturned three lbw decisions using DRS in the first Test in Bangladesh on Thursday.

India and Sri Lanka were involved in the first series that featured umpire reviewsexternal-link in 2008, but that series did not involve ball-tracking technology being used to predict the path of the ball.

Both teams must agree for DRS to be used in a bilateral series.

The BCCI agreed to a trial after meeting with officials from Hawk-Eye, the company which devised and provides the technology used for lbw decisions.

Ultra-motion cameras have been introduced to improve the accuracy of ball-tracking predictions.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur said: "We recognise the enhanced role of technology in sport."

He said the use of DRS in future India series will depend on "the performance of the system and the feedback that we will receive".

The International Cricket Council changed the DRS system this month, making it easier to overturn not-out lbw decisions.

England's five-Test series in India begins on 9 November in Rajkot.

    High time. In the recent test series NZ v India there were a record number of LBWs, including 10 against NZ and 1 against India in the first test. Many were marginal, to say the least, and the decisions seemed to be encouraged by the constant appealing and pressure put on the umpires. Ashwin appealed vigorously for all six deliveries in one over when replays showed none were even close.

    About time. I (and many others) are fed up with their stupid prehistoric stance on DRS, saying that they don't trust it etc and then abusing umpires for their decisions in test matches when they don't agree. Well, if you don't accept change like everyone else, don't complain about what you've chosen!

    Although this is just a trial, it's about time. They should have been told ages ago that if they don't accept DRS, they don't play test cricket

    The scandal is that India have been allowed NOT to have DRS, when the rest of the cricketing world has. Who runs world cricket??? It's a bit like rugby union, tbh. What the All Blacks want, they get.

    Also, when is front-foot no-ball technology coming in? There's been front-foot fault technology in the long-jump for the best part of three decades now. The number of un-called no-balls over the years has been ridiculous.

    About time. It should not be up to a competitor whether they follow the rules or not. When the ICC introduced DRS it should have been mandatory for all Tests.

    All countries should have had to use DRS from the beginning. The system is pretty good in my opinion so it's about bloody time the Indians finally accept it's for the better of cricket.

    Just read Jonathan Agnew saying DRS in India could be bad news for England Batsmen!, If so, so be it!, You can not be hypocritical about this and as an England Fan if the DRS gave India more Convincing win I would say well done India!, Umpires can use DRS to get most decisions right and appease players and supporters alike.

    I think some of the credit for this change is down to Virat Kohli,and some of the younger generation Indian players.The older generation were bought up on non neutral umpires,where even knocking 3 stumps out of the ground was a starting point for dispute. Sachin and co.knew there was virtually no chance of being given out LBW.

    You're right of course but the BCCI is by far the richest cricket board and therefore the most powerful. ICC we scared of them simple as that. No other country's board could get away with what they do.

    Glad they've agreed to use DRS. Brought in to get rid of clearly wrong decisions, which it has done.

    I can't understand why the ICC cannot just make DRS mandatory. India should not be able to cherry pick what elements they want and don't want.

    India have also refused to play Pakistan, this should not be allowed. All international teams should play each other and be free from political influence. Come on ICC sort it out the people want a Pakistan V India Series.

    At last India have condescended to trial the system! There has never been logic in their argument that the ball-tracking element of DRS is not perfect so we're not going to accept it, when the probability of a correct decision using the technology exceeds that of the poor umpire given a split second to evaluate all the facts he thinks he has seen and the pressures put on him by the players.
