The kolpak players rule should be scrapped
Why must you insist on referring to Warwickshire as 'the Bears' ? Only Bears team I know are in Chicago. It is silly, dumbing down - something at which BBC sports writers seem adept.
It's unfair to criticise Yorks for the debacle at Lords last Sept. The issue was Middx scoring at such a slow rate in their 1st innings & also in their second, until Yorks had no option other than to give runs away in order to try to force a result. In the end, the absence of their quality batsmen (Root/Bairstow also Travis Head who was called up by Oz) + poor form of others cost them the match.
Still annoys me the way Durham were treated. ECB are a complete waste of time as Durham were lead up the garden path somewhat. It's not being bitter but just can't wait to see Hampshire fail this season as I am sure if the same happened to them, they wouldn't get the same treatment Durham have.
I agree that Somerset were robbed, just imagine if the Premier League(football of course) was won by such foul means, there would be uproar.
From someone who was at Lords on the last day as a neutral, yes some of the Yorks players such as Bairstow should have been allowed to play, some of their players, such as Gale were in such bad form that a very contrived run chase was the only way they had a chance. For Yorks not to try to draw if they could not win, was an immoral way for Somerset to be deprived of a 1st Championship.
@68 UranusYes they were encouraged same a yorks have been encouraged to up grade the grounds to a standard. Fine. They weren't forced. As to the tests they bid for them and won the bids they weren't forced to bid they choose to they knew what they over bid on. Bad management.Don't blame ecb for durhams bad business. They didn't have to upgrade, they didn't have to bid. They took the risk.
CC games are 11am, to 6pmWork is 9am to 5pm For anyone who works for a living you have an hour (at best) to get from work, to the ground and watch a few minutes of cricket.20 & 50 over cricket starts later, finishes much later and is available for working people to watch.Easy answer move the start time of the CC later, & see if crowds go up...
It seems a disappointing format to me.I notice an imbalance in the fixtures. The one-day trophy should just return to a straight knockout format - like the old Nat-West Trophy (though at 50 overs). This would allowed for extra time to play all the other counties in Division 2, home and away.A similar fixture imbalance exists in T20. Not playing all the teams is bound to offer advantages.
The ECB penalising Durham for doing what the ECB told them to do (building a test level ground) is monstrous.Durham have produced a string of England players in the short time they have been in existance (Stokes, Wood, Onions, Collingwood, Borthwick, Harmison, etc...) with many more county players moving on from Durham to play for other counties.Does the ECB want to kill the production line?
@69 original-koppiteThank goodness we won't have to put up with your alternative facts and whinging this year.Looking forward to what will hopefully be another exciting CC.
