"Moeen Ali, Jake Ball, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Ben Stokes have been rested" They're not being rested if they are playing for their counties, are they? Are you not going to mention this, or the full-price tickets to see what is becoming Lions vs South Africa A?Much easier to just do a copy-paste on the ECB press release, I guess.
Pointless T20 TournamentAt last people are starting to notice that Strauss is wanting to stuff Yorkshire again
Bairstow's got no chance of being chosen ahead of Roy. He's Andrew Strauss's nephew isn't he?
So Root and Rashid are rested for next round of Country Championship and Bairstow, who has somehow not been required so far, is now a T20 specialist. Could it be that Yorkshire are playing Middlesex ?
I might not have picked Mason Crane at this point in his career. I might have left him to find his feet in the Hants team, learning by practice one of the most difficult of cricket arts - leg break and googly bowling. He seems an admirably level-headed young man, one bent on mastering the skills necessary for a successful career. I certainly wish him all the very best in that endeavour.
Very exciting selection, hits a long ball. Remember his ridiculous score at club level a few years ago?!
@17. & 1. He's definitely Barbadian, but he wants to follow Chris Jordan's path and play for England.
While I am on a rant, can people also shut up about the cost of tickets & certain players not involved. England are picking talented youngsters & more than one of them might play the game & begin a very successful career in international cricket. This is 20/20 cricket - it's blink and you miss it stuff. 5 new players in a 16 man squad. To argue you are being defrauded is total and utter rubbish.
Can people shut up about Jason Roy. It's getting so tedious. He and Hales have been part of a very successful opening partnership in one day cricket over the past 18 months. He's hit a patch of poor form at a bad time. England are reluctant to change a winning side & Bairstow is not a natural replacement. He doesn't usually open, and picking him will mean reshuffling the order so Root or Ali open.
@, 1, scratchythirty,Isn't He Barbados Born?.
The sooner ROY gets sent home or on a long vacation to the Antarctic, the better the England team will be,I wonder what he as on Morgan to keep being chosen over players who can play the game.Is it that the best player is a Yorkshire man ie Bairstow.
@7 Momentum? Momentum to what? The tournament would have just finished and resting players is far more critical nowadays, particularly in Stokes case as he's been carrying a niggle for some time. Same issue was pretty much any team sport. SA don't have to as they got knocked out early, but probably will do the same. Also as 9 said, this was already known in advance.
@2 I think the article is badly written, 'rest' shouldn't be in the article. The players not in the squad have day/night commitments that will help Eng in future, so doesn't concern me.@7 @5 Root and Stokes are missing but there's still Billings, Roy, Buttler, Morgan and Bairstow all easily capable of making these games hugely enjoyable to watch. Will be great to see what LL and Crane can do.
So Jason Roy is selected above better players with better averages again.
@11 with all that dosh he might even be able to afford someone to do the bowling for him let alone carry the cash...
With historical back injury issues, Tymal should be careful carrying all that IPL cash to the bank.
