One win at the WACA in 13 games does not bode well.
@ lesssoapmoresport.......not sure about that, would go probably for Gooch (my era) and/or Boycott, just because of the new ball attacks they faced... never saw Hobbs/Hammond etc but can't argue with my Essex brothers numbers........as always, any batsman is only 1 innings/century away from being in from, Perth would be a great place to start Chef :0)
225 226Quite some time has gone since Strauss retirement and I wouldn't have imagined we would still be looking for a definite opener. If Cook quit or was dropped around the same time, that really would have been a minefield. It seems not just England but a common problem in world cricket, there isn't a abundance of real Test pedigree openers around.
Take a bow Alastair, you've been a great servant for England and if this is your last test series (it won't be) then I for one would like to congratulate you on a great test career. Not many players can boast 150 test matches let alone 147 consecutive test matches. Well done sir
@225Strauss went about 5 years ago, and we still haven't found a replacement for him. What makes you think it would have been easer to replace Cook?
222. Posted by ricodegreco on 2 hours agoI take your point, when Cooks out of form, he's out of form. He's perhaps on the downward spiral now but my argument with anyone will be; where's the replacement?-This is what makes me angry. Too late for that now. He should have been gotten rid of 4 years ago and then we'd have a replacement in place by now. Thats what people dont get.
Cook cant make a decision.Yhea we know. We've been seeing it at the crease for years, how ironic that he's as indecisive in life as he is with a bat.
215 I hope you're right about Handscombe and Bancroft; I'd love to see them trying to face a real cricket ball that swings.
I take your point, when Cooks out of form, he's out of form. He's perhaps on the downward spiral now but my argument with anyone will be; where's the replacement? We've literally been around the merry go round looking to replace Strauss, Hameed in the future maybe but for the foreseeable, I can't see anyone really knocking on the door
Didn't the report stem from an interview with Cook himself? He must have expected That Question? The only one of The Big Boys to have kept unusually quiet this week is Broad. If the Players/Team/Management don't want people to discuss, speculate about, comment on what they say to journos etc. , best not say anything in the first place, surely?
