Just a note on the stat; McGrath never had to bowl against the best batsmen of his era; he bowled at batsmen who were under a lot of scoreboard pressure from the Aussie batsmen and, with Warne at the other end, McGrath picked up plenty of wickets as batsmen were compelled to go after his medium pace. Not so for Jimmy.McGrath; a good bowler but not as great as his stats suggest.
Only one HYS today and it's on boring bluddy cricket!
I hope all the posters who were saying we should get rid of Cook, Broad etc have changed their minds. It's alright saying bring in so and so but until they've actually played for England you never know how they are going to perform under pressure.I know the series is lost but it's no cakewalk playing against Australia over there.
It's just not Cricket is it!..on the BBC we can have an opinion on Cricket but the same does not apply to Politics, no Brexit, no Heseltine HYS options.Just goes to show just how Biased and anti democratic old Auntie has become.
A double ton is a great innings but England have lost the Ashes...that's all that matters...heroic performances are all well and good but these are irrelevant dead rubbers. Australia are using them as training matches. England should now blood the young guys not prop up senior pros whose careers are nearly over. One swallow doesn't make a summer.
Great innings by Cooke.
@485. Posted by Football Jim "Dont undetstand all these Cook plaudits.Scoring a century when the series is lost and pressure off. ".Posted the highest ever score by a visiting batsman at the MCG (244*), reached 6th on the all time test runs scored list and scored his 5th double ton.Seems individual plaudits are due. Oh, and a 1st innings score like this puts us in a match winning position
@498. Posted by Knighton Palace "How can any England player or fan feel satisfied when we have already lost the series ??Easy for some gutless players to play better now the real pressure is off !!"Satisfied? No, but it's pleasing to see us compete. Would you rather we lost again so you could whine more? 12,000 runs and 400 wickets over a decade and you say "gutless", what an odd one u r!
Well done to Cook.Stable door...........horse............bolted.
Yes its definitely too late, but not too little. Perhaps England haven't forgotten how to play cricket after all. Keep up the good work
TMO decisions getting ridiculous now. The issue is the crowd and TV audience have all just seen Broad dropped even the fielder says he dropped it, yet given out. Truly bizarre. We have seen this in Rugby as well. The idea is to get these decisions right.
England should be thanking the Aussies. Leaving out our best bowler so the Poms could make a game of it.
well done Cookie. I see he was dropped by Smith twice, couldnt have happened to a nicer guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
