The curse of the rain and DLS strikes again. Feel sorry for Zimbabwe to get within 9 runs of UAE total in 7.5 overs less and still be 3 runs short. Assume the luck of the Irish will prevail if no result tomorrow. Good luck to them but hope it is achieved with no DLS.
You have to feel for Scotland. Only fair result tomorrow will be an Ireland win, would be an absolute disgrace if Afghanistan qualify after winning 1 game in the first group phase. It was a poor decision to drop the world cup to 10 games to try and eliminate the associate nations but at least both the main test nations aren't through (even if Ireland and Afghanistan are technically ones too now)
Today's result has "put the cat among the pigeons" as now the winner of tomorrow's final match between Ireland and Afghanistan will qualify for the World Cup. It is a travesty there will be only 10 countries playing and ICC are culpable in blocking development of the game beyond those elite countries which they over represent. All six of the qualifiers for the final stage in Zimbabwe should play.
Shame to see both Scotland and now Rhodesia pipped at the post. So Ireland v Afghanistan have it all to play for. Should be a cracker ! In fact all four should be in the World Cup. It's the performance of the developing nations that gives it its interest.
ICC should look at expansion again after this WC and get back to growing the game globally. 16 countries, 4 groups of 4 teams. Top Two from each group qualify for QF's (straight knock out after that) third placed team in group stage automatically qualify for next WC and the bottom teams have to qualify next time round in expanded qualifier tournament with more countries (PNG's, Nepal's, Kenya etc
It’s a fair result. Scotland were chasing a tiny target and should have factored in the rain. By staying above 5 or so runs an over, they should have looked to close it out by over 40. They would have qualified easily. Only themselves to blame as it’s always easier chasing knowing there might be rain.
Surely English Cricket can help the Scots at this stage. My personal preference would be Ireland, Scotland, Wales and 5 English sides to compete in a new 50/20 over domestic tournaments. If this could lead to a competitive '4 nations' tournament each summer that would only be good for everyone. The ICC won't care until a major member fails to qualify, then we'll suddenly see change.
The treatment of all the Associate Nations by the ICC is nothing short of shameful Ireland and Afghanistan are now full members and they won't even be at the World Cup, work that one out! the West Indies and Zimbabwe shouldn't needed to qualify either, just a joke it makes a mockery of the sport and cricket's claim to be all about fair play and a gentleman's game is hypocrisy of the highest order!
Hard luck Scotland but what is wrong with the ICC? Only 10 teams in the 'World Cup'! Surely one of the main reasons for having a world cup is to enhance the profile of domestic and international cricketing. Now the 'World Cup' will have only1 team from Europe and the UK. Hardly representative of the world.
FIFTY EIGHT!!!Way to go England.
@7 normally a fan of English cricket but just for you and all of the other gloating idiots from yesterday, yup very much enjoying watching England perform on the world stage.
To those saying the windies look weak .remember they are still nowhere near full strength . The were without the two Bravo"s Russell simmons and one of the best limited over spinners Narine. with those back they will surprise many next year and unlike England they have won two global events in recent yearsl l
