This is gross misconduct and therefore termination of employment is absolutely correct. They have disgraced the game of cricket.
Agree boating-voter. Playing the game "hard" doesn't mean there can't also be respect - there's room for both. We Aussies gotta start showing some respect I think, if we're gonna expect any in return. Noticed Paine said "we're not gonna do this every test match..." - but I don't see why not?
Nice gesture from Paine to start the SA v Aus Test with team handshakes. Could be a very symbolic first step in the right direction.I don't want Australian cricket to have its teeth drawn. I want them to want to be the best in the world, still - but respectful of the game and opposition. The Baggy Green is meant to be a badge of honour, worn with humility and a sense of privilege.
I'm an Aussie - when this news broke I said "life ban, no question". After seeing Smith's statement, I'm no longer sure. Yes, this deserves a long ban - but life? I don't doubt Smith's sincerity, so: do the time, then come back and make a positive contribution to the game. As for the others... Warner: waiting to hear what more he says. Bancroft: was lead astray, but shoulda said "no way mate".
So non of the bowlers realised the ball was being tampered with really ?I can't think anyone believes that or the fact this was the first time the Aussies had done it A cheating culture deserves the response they are getting . There are players still in the team that knew full well what was going on
@1160. Posted by Slim,I have read your comment by Keith Miller many years ago,it is just as appropriate now as when it was made.Cheating has no part in any sport, move on and accept the result.
I wish those involved, and those expressing some sympathy for them, would stop describing what they did as a mistake. Or at least call it a deliberate mistake. Or better still come out and use the word cheat. They completely deserve their punishment. Why do Australian cricketers start bawling at press conferences, like babies in need of gripe water ??
I'm sick to death that players think that they are untouchable, and they have decided that cheating is the preferred way ahead to obtain the desired result. If caught cheating take the punishment of a lifetime ban and grow a spine and lose the tear ducts, and do not hide behind your offspring no matter what your opinion is and stand on your own hind legs and take the resulting flack.
Both spot fixing & cheating are corrupt practices. They both aim to influence the outcome of events by unfair means. They both hurt punters pockets & generally damage the game as whole. There is no law in any land against bowling deliberate no balls either, the fake shaikh reporter did a stitch up job on Amir & Co & they fell for it and law said they influenced betting. Cheating does that too.
Punishment is fine for what they did. Like many just can’t stand Warner and once saw him shouting profanities in front of children. He is a thug who plays cricket but no more. I just wish he played in the 80s against the great West Indies side with him trying to sledge Viv Richards or Gordon Greenidge. I’m sure Marshall, Roberts et al would have made the coward cry and wish he was banned !!
#1159 The bans were imposed by Cricket Australia. At present, the ICC can only impose limited sanctions. Match and spot fixing is a criminal offence in at least one of the major cricketing countries. Sandpapering a cricket ball isn't against the law of the land anywhere. That surely gives a clue which is the more serious, not that it takes too much effort to work it out anyway.
Draw a line under this episode and just state that any further cheating by any player of any nation will be punished with a lifetime ban. End of.
'Anomalies' just means a change of attitude to cheating, which is to be welcomed. To raise the screen of 'anomolies' is just a cover for defending cheating. Crawl back under whatever it is you like to use to hide from the light of decency.
Sky should do a full forensic study of Warner in the field during the recent Ashes tests. He's surely been roughing up the ball with his excessive hand bandages for ages. When he heard he was under scrutiny, he felt he was within his rights to hand the job over to Bancroft without needing to check with management or bowlers. They KNEW it was going on so it didn't matter to them who was doing it.
BREAKING NEWS :Shane Warne fell for the fake tears and the fake ‘one-off’ claims.Idiot or a liar ?Vote UP for idiot, DOWN for liar
