@1090 Brass HatI respectfully disagree. Your suggestion of a "re-write" made me chuckle though. It felt like I was back at school, so I'll play along: watch out for the typos (@1092 "assinine").
Probably the best batsman ever, but not a great captain.
He had a chance to break sachin record. but cook is one of the most stylish player ever.
@1063. Posted by FOX44 on 14 hours ago@1052, think you mean connive, not sure the word "canive" exists! Your comments are asinine in any eventI think on a minute review of the text the comments may possibly be described as rebarbative as opposed to merely assinine
@1081"He (KP) still undermined his captain which is an unwritten No Go in cricket"~ and its important to note that when KP has left any team he's played for ( incl the Qwa-Zululand Boy Scouts under-15 teamthe Captain or senior players throw/threw KPs kit out of the changing room windowthis would appear to imply KP ( whilst a great batter) had no concept of Team Play only KP play
@1085 J Felix-Languar "I am a biased Essex fan"I'm sure you didn't mean to, but your posting seems to denigrate Cook not extol him maybe a re-emphasis upon a re-write
You cannot compare the achievements of Jimmy Anderson to those of Alistair Cook. A batsman and particularly an opening batsman can be out first ball to an unplayable delivery. A bowler can bowl complete dross during his first spell and then take 5 wickets during his second spell. Cook has displayed a mental toughness second to none.
I follow most sports and I cannot think of a more impressive role model. His contribution to England cricket has been immense.
I just got a ticket to Day 4 at the Oval - fingers crossed!
@ 1019 Podgehodge ......... You win.Sorry @ 1007 Palicus.
I am a biased Essex fan. Here's my take:He only had 4 shots and didn't hit 6s. He was inconsistent at times. He was a steady but not spectacular captain. He was (reassuringly) boring. He was indulged by the ECB towards the end. Indeed he was all of those things, but in the end the sheer weight of runs don't lie. Without him, it will feel like England are going out to bat naked.
@1080Hayden was brutally destructive. Ideally you need openers to have contrasting styles, like Hayden & Langer were.
@1081He still undermined his captain which is an unwritten no no in cricket.
Part of the most boring (in a good way) England opening order I've ever seen, you could always count on Cooke, Strauss, Trott and KP to put bat for a long time and put on a lot of runs. There was barely a wicket in the first two sessions when they were all playing together. I think it's the right decision but he's truly a great player. Hope he goes out with a big score. World class.
@327. "You can say what you like about Cookie, but he isn't the sort of bloke to pass notes to the opposition about his captain."It was called Textgate. KP was fully exonerated which the ECB finally (and ungraciously) had to apologies for. Get your facts straight and cease with the propaganda. Muppet.
