Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah took a Test-best 8-41 to help bowl New Zealand out for 90 in the second Test in Dubai.
New Zealand collapsed from 50-0 to concede a first-innings deficit of 328, with six batsmen falling for ducks.
Yasir, 32, took two more wickets as New Zealand, following on, closed day three on 131-2 - a deficit of 197.
New Zealand won a thrilling first Test by four runs after Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for 41 runs.
Yasir's figures, which came in only 12.3 overs, included a triple-wicket maiden.
They are the third-best figures by a Pakistan bowler in an innings after Abdul Qadir's 9-56 against England in 1987 and Sarfraz Nawaz's 9-86 against Australia in 1979.
Yasir's previous best were 7-76 against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2015.
The final Test in Abu Dhabi starts on 3 December.
