    831. rpb: As I did with regard to GrouchoM's naming Don Bradman, I must point out that the original comment (767) set parameters as being within the last 60 years. Everton Weekes played his last Test in 1958. While both Neil Harvey and Peter May played Test cricket after 1959, each of them (May especially) was past his best by then. No quarrel with the rest of your suggestions.

    @838 so what are you saying about Australian cricket fans? They always boo and jeer. Do you think they're not cricket fans? I find you're comments about the people at Edgbaston today a little elitist. Perhaps they reflect our society and you don't?

    835. I know all about the Australian hypocrisy, re Stuart Broad. The reality is that England cricket supporters - of which I am a real, full time one, who will be spending the winter watching them and the opposition in the fair way that the game of cricket evolved - do not boo. These people are not cricket supporters. They are a poor reflection of our society. We used to have worldwide respect.

    Hindsight be lovely but we do not know if Archers injury may have repopped up again, Anderson's was more likely though but we shall not know.

    So interesting day 1 folks.

    @833 rubbish - they had a massive witch hunt and media campaign against Stuart broad just for not walking in a previous series (something two of their players did today btw). If you think Aussies wouldn't have a field day if situation was reversed then I think you're very gullible. If you want to let it all slide then fine but don't criticise others for expressing their opinions.

    832. Please respond to my comments on 833. The Australians are not my heroes. I am just fed up with continued loutish spectator behaviour at cricket that is more usually associated with another well known sport. Please save bad spectator behaviour for that sport and encourage children and new spectators to cricket.

    827. After Atherton had a gentle rap on the knuckles following a similar incident to the three Australian players - against South Africa at Lords in 1994 - he was allowed to keep the captaincy for nearly four more years and retired to a fanfare in 2001, before having a long uninterrupted media career. No one gave him a hard time. The booing of Smith, inspired him. I suggest it is time to stop?

    @829 MKs

    Cheating your fellow professionals in such blatant though very effective way means the cynical Aussies had no regard for anyone, now it's hard for many to have any regard for these cheats. What's your problem with that. You can accept them as your heroes that is your choice.

    You would be better off telling the Australians if they want respect they should behave respectfully.

    785 - I wouldn't include Gower, Turner and Boycott as being in the same class as Smith. I would include Sobers, Richards B & V, Barrington, Neil Harvey, May, Weekes, Hayden, Ponting and Sangakkara. These are as good as or better than Smith.
