@177Agreed with what you said right up until your last awful sentence.I presume you are talking about the BRITISH tennis player.I hope Froomey gets SPOTY this year because he truly deserves it but I no way can I say anything bad about Sir Andy Murray.
Amateur and leisure cyclists like myself never cease to appreciate the sheer dedication and effort required to complete even ONE STAGE of a grand tour, let alone the complete race. Then, imagine what it takes to win it.....So, chapeau Chris Froome. At least it should keep a bad tempered, childish Scotsman from SPOTY this year!
165 Donald Trump: Well done....we should be proud of him for any number of achievements, including standing up to Brailsford.
@16 & 129 CB. Maybe people downvoted you without reading the post properly (i.e.competitors bikes being electric & not the support motor bikes) & assumed another comment re. cyclists cheating. After the Belgian female cyclo-X scandal & past rumours that Cancellara had a motor hidden in the frame when at his best, officials now use in-stage monitors - no positive results. Your suggestion has merit.
@162I don't know if Movistar target the Vuelta. All GTs are roughly the same. Tour gets most kudos outside cycling. Giro is probably most prestigious within cycling. Vuelta is a race for mountain goats. Quintana must be the leader for the Tour. Landa will probably get the Giro. Vuelta is usually a toss up. Depends whether the Tour leader is feeling good.
@167Landa's already signed for Movistar. It's was rumour a week ago but it's now splattered all over the specialist sites. There's no such thing as tapping up in cycling, although announcements can't be made till 1 Aug. Presumably he went to lead in a GT. There are 3 every year. And Quintana won't want to do two.
@163 Possible, only 14km of ITT in 2015 - didn't stop Froome from winning that year though.Might not just be to suit Bardet though, they have generally cut down time trials in the last 10 years, used to have two ITTs of around 50km pretty regularly until 2008. Only done that once since (2012 Wiggins)
Hopefully, now the UK sporting public will accept "Sir" Chris Froome for the ultimate sporting champion he is. Its not about personality (apart from the BBC end of year show, which he deserves to win hands down) as that doesn't get you up mountains or keep you on your bike at 50 mph. He is a driven professional athlete with a desire is to win backed by brilliant team mates.
Froome is a class act!!
The organisers took some risks with the route but it's worked brilliantly, and leaves us all still guessing right to the end. It's a bit sentimental but I'm so glad to see the French back and strong in their own race. So much talent in the peleton this year! Only downside is continued low profile of women's cycling...but at least a small step in the right direction this year.
All eggs in one basket when it comes to le tour. Brilliant Frome and brilliant SKY and hats off to sunweb who have been superb.
Why would Landa leave Sky and go to Movistar to support Quintana? Surely if he moves he'll want to lead in a Grand Tour?
@ 162Agreed.It's quite obvious that Quintana is burnt out from El Giro this year.But for sure, if rumours are true and Landa joins Movistar, with a fit again Valverde they will have a formidable team with Quintana.And as a team they always target La Vuelta being their 'home race', although of course putting on a very strong showing the last few years at La Tour.Who would be team leader?
@164He is and he is
Don't know much about cycling but if froome is clean. He must be one of the best ever.
Do people think there will be any time trialling next year ? Home advantage will try and shape an even more bardet friendly course.
@155Maybe Sunweb. I'm sure Dumoulin will be at the Tour in 2018. He could match Froome in the TTs and climb. Also Sunweb race creatively and aggressively. Movistar too. Landa and Valverde as domestiques for Quintana would match Poels and Thomas.
According to Diane Abbot Froome has a 300, 000 mile deficit and needs to complete the time trial faster than light.Oh what the BBC forgot to report she repeated her can't add up gaffe today.Shadow Home Secretary my chamis.Was hoping Steve Cummings would come good today but not to be.It is up to the others to outwit/out cycle Froome. They can't so Team Sky deserve the Tour win.
